Kutskova

Here are the comments our experts shared on this vodka.

I wasn't wild about this one. I found the bottle unattractive, and the squat neck was not conducive to easy pouring. The vodka itself was almost sweet, with an oily finish, which did not appeal. At the same time, it seemed a very Russian vodka, and I can imagine its appeal to certain palates.

A classic Russian vodka, but somewhat harsh compared with some of the other offerings we have tasted. Nice texture, very appealing bottle.

Clean, fresh aroma with hints of grain, camphor, vanilla and no nasal burn. Great clarity, clean, clear and bright with no color. Good viscosity, medium weight. Palate of soft, creamy vanilla, peppery notes, faint citrus and brininess. Elegant, with great mouthfeel and a lovely creaminess, with faint vanilla tones extending through the long finish. Finish is peppery with a light, crisp, faint heat and a slight sweetness. Has long legs. Great packaging with icy bottle and clear picture of Red Square. Loved this Vodka almost as much as the Russian Ultra.

A sweet, smooth taste that is clear and clean, but with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Very silky texture and pleasing aroma. I like the classy bottle, evocative of early Russian architectural lines.

I thought it was very good, with a nice smooth, almost oily texture, and slightly bitter--but pleasant--aftertaste.

The taste was superior to what I thought it would be after sniffing the aroma.

Clean rich in aromatics with lively aromas of wintergreen, spearmint and vanilla with a delicate minerality hinting at stones, flint with camphor and white pepper. Subtle and slightly creamy with pleasant viscous vanilla, custard-like character showing asian spice, mineral, cedar dust and mint with some austerity. Notes of green apple and citrus are well defined. Finishes just a bit hot. Bottle a bit clumsy to hold. Pretty good overall.

Our vodka experts are dispersed around the country, tasting the very best vodkas. We do not gather together in one place, engage in Groupthink, and otherwise influence one another's opinions. Each expert has their own tastes, preferences and quirks (but we share a tasting methodology). We feel all of this contributes to more interesting, honest results.

It is worth noting that, in our scoring, we use the full 100 point scale, not just the top 10 or 20 points of it. We don't believe in grade inflation, and we consider a score of 80 or above to be the mark of a fine vodka. The final scores tallied above are the average scores of our seven vodka experts from around the country.
