Ketel One Citroen

Ketel One Citroen Made in: Holland
Distributed/Imported in the US by: Nolet Spirits USA
Main raw material: Grain
Expected retail price: $ 20.00
Building on the over three centuries of the Nolet family's distilling experience the company has introduced this citrus-flavored vodka. The vodka is made from the famous Ketel One unflavored vodka, which is hand-distilled in small quantities in alembic copper potstills. Only the heart of the distillate is used, with the first and last portions discarded as too harsh or too weak. Each batch must be tasted by a member of the Nolet family before being approved for release.

Vodkaphiles Panel Comments on
Ketel One Citroen

Here are the comments our experts shared on this vodka.

Crystal clear. Medium to full-bodied. Good viscosity. Rich texture. Enticing aroma of essence of lemon (not fresh lemon), blossom, dried herbs, mineral, brine, anise and white pepper. Similar palate. Complex, round, smooth and clean. Long, long, clean, tasty finish showing good weight and depth, with just a touch of heat. Very attractive package. A delightful, finesseful Vodka that is highly recommended.

I really liked this one. The fragrance is very citrusy, the taste -- delicious. The aftertaste is refreshing. The only slightly negative comment is that it's not quite as viscuous as I like. I'm not wild about the bottle -- the short neck is hard to grab. It may be chic but it's definitely not Russian style!

Strong citrus fragrance which hides vodka taste. It is a different product than straight vodka. Slightly less creamy than the competition. If you like lemon, you like this vodka. The bottle is solid, heavy. Denotes age and tradition and substantiality.

Very nice, creamy texture. Wonderful citrusy nose. Unfortunately, it can have a somewhat mediciney aftertaste. Bottle very nicely conveys weight and gravitas of this venerable distillery. Makes a great vodka tonic.

Tangy lemon and lime zest essence with faint notes of pineapple, mineral and lemon curd showing considerable purity. Excellent clarity and brilliance, suggesting more austerity as it lacks a bit visually in texture. Almost cristalline. The taste is beautifully balanced, supple and mild with mixed citrus flavors, white blossom, finishing with some pineapple and lychee. Soft and clean on the pallet with minimal heat, but offering a crisp citric tang followed a rich custardy lightly spiced aftertaste. Packaging has a traditional, authentic feel. Promotes the singularity of the pot still and the labor intensive process of hand craftsmanship. Certainly not flashy, but superior product.

Ketel One Citroen has a pleasant, tantalizing aroma and doesn't disappoint when it comes to taste. A fine addition to the respected Ketel One name.

Our vodka experts are dispersed around the country, tasting the very best vodkas. We do not gather together in one place, engage in Groupthink, and otherwise influence one another's opinions. Each expert has their own tastes, preferences and quirks (but we share a tasting methodology). We feel all of this contributes to more interesting, honest results.

It is worth noting that, in our scoring, we use the full 100 point scale, not just the top 10 or 20 points of it. We don't believe in grade inflation, and we consider a score of 80 or above to be the mark of a fine vodka. The final scores tallied above are the average scores of our seven vodka experts from around the country.
